Faruk Fatih Ozer, founder of the now-defunct cryptocurrency exchange Thidex, was found dead in a solitary confinement cell in a Turkish prison. Turkish Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç stated that preliminary investigations suggest suicide, but the investigation is ongoing. In September 2023, Ozer and his siblings were sentenced to 11,196 years in prison for aggravated fraud, money laundering, and leading a criminal organization. Thidex collapsed in April 2021, leaving over 400,000 users unable to withdraw their funds. Chainalysis estimated the total losses at approximately $2.6 billion in 2021. (TheBlock)
